Steven is working as a summer intern assisting us with our critical projects. He is grounded and pragmatic, and is willing to lend a hand wherever he is needed.
Nadia is working as a summer intern assisting us with our critical projects. She is extremely inquisitive and brings an infectious positive attitude to the office. Of course, we give all of the credit to her extremely cute pooch.
Jackie is an experienced and creative mechanical engineer. She also loves gardening: in her words – “I love plants and they make me happy.” She also has a great attention to detail and ensures that nothing is missed or overlooked on any project. Her fine attention to detail and innate creativity are breathing life into our projects, and, hopefully, helping the rest of us avoid murdering our office plants.
Morgan is a skilled mechanical engineer with robust, client-facing technical consulting experience. He has a keen interest in fluid mechanics. Every stroke of his paddle when canoeing produces a unique pattern of randomized vortex shedding, creating miniature maelstroms in the two-phase medium (algae + water), and displaying its wondrous viscosity and surface tension creating fluidic lateral adhesion as it coats the paddle and forms droplets off its end (probably splashing the other occupants of the canoe) . We can just imagine the glorious math floating around in Morgan’s imagination.
Denise is responsible for materials engineering. And for supplying the engineering fuel (i.e., coffee) for the rest of the team. Denise has so much experience working as an engineer, that she was reluctant to disclose her birth date to us – we just assumed that it was her modesty. But more importantly, she and her husband, Raymond, supply us with freshly roasted (i.e., still warm when delivered) coffee every week to lubricate our rusty minds – an important role indeed.
Sara holds a Ph.D. in Petroleum Engineering and is intimately involved in analysing the data collected from Sentient’s Recon family of products to support our clients. She is an enthusiastic and avid learner, with a thirst to grow and improve, and is adept applying her extensive knowledge ubiquitously. And, in the midst of doing so, graces our oftentimes ragtag troupe with her poise and class.
Andrew is a Professional Engineer with expertise in Mechanical Engineering, and product development and testing. Andrew is currently back in University pursuing a second degree in education with future plans on being a teacher. His focus at Sentient is on new product development and mechanical engineering support, and he excels at it – Andrew will be a great teacher. And aside from work (and the essential engineer rite of passage of Lego construction for which he has yet to give up), Andrew is an active a capella singer, and his group, 6 Minute Warning, are talented enough to have paid gigs (which is aca-awesome). We are awed by this man’s broad talent.
Chad is a Professional Engineer with extensive experience in electronics development, including hardware, firmware and software. He is responsible for electronics development for Sentient products, as well as systems testing, troubleshooting, and general expert advice and guidance to our more junior staff; he is a great source of knowledge and practical implementation advice.
Chad is also a music fanatic and even has plans to develop and build his own custom sound amplifier because, like any purist worth their salt, he is exasperated with the state of consumer electronics and their fixation on providing a plethora of mostly-useless features over solid sound quality.
Gerry is an accomplished and experienced technologist, attuned to ensure every detail is accounted. He has mastered the art of effectively communicate technical information with proper modelling and drafting, and has an innate ability to visualize the technical features of a concept. Gerry is passionate about every detail, and has used that passion to create breathtaking models as a pastime.
But Gerry doesn’t stop at making models of airplanes – he is a private pilot, with his own project aircraft in the works. And he is passionate about it – he even lives in his apartment above his aircraft hangar…
Effective firmware engineering requires both an electrical engineer and a software engineer. Working with bits, bytes, and registers and putting them into perspective to a build system is like sketching: executing a drawing by carefully aligning lines, edges, shades. Luckily for us, Abdi is an excellent electrical engineer, software engineer and artist.
